POWDER MONKEY is a beautiful gaff-rigged Herreshoff Haven, built in Brooklin ME by Eric Dow Boat Shop, offering a comfortable cockpit for family sailing and day cruising. Cold-molded for less maintenance, she sports varnished spruce spars, mahogany bulkheads and trim, a forward storage area, and varnished interior. A centerboard makes her easy to trailer and launch and gives her a shoal draft that enables endless gunkholing. Custom Triad trailer included.

The Haven 12½ is a classic New England daysailer designed by Joel White in the mid-1980s as a modernized version of Nathanael Herreshoff's famous Herreshoff 12½. While it preserves the appearance, balance, and sailing qualities of the original, White added a centerboard and slightly increased the beam, making the boat easier to trailer, launch, and sail in shallow water. The Haven is widely admired because it combines traditional Herreshoff aesthetics, excellent stability and balance, shoal draft with the centerboard up, and trailerability.

Eric Dow's connection to the Haven
Few builders are as closely associated with the Haven as Eric Dow Boat Shop. Eric Dow, a respected wooden boatbuilder in Brooklin, Maine, has been building boats since the 1970s and became one of the foremost Haven builders. According to Small Boats Magazine, he built his first Haven in 1987 and went on to specialize in the design for decades. His shop has produced Havens using both traditional plank-on-frame construction and cold-molded wood construction. Dow and his crew developed patterns and methods that allowed them to build the boats efficiently while maintaining a very high level of craftsmanship.
