HISTORY
Designed in 1942 by renowned naval architect L. Francis Herreshoff, the H-28 is a classic heavy displacement cruising sailboat. Built to his exact specifications by Astilleros Gallart, of Gallart Shipyard in Barcelona Spain in 1960, BRIGHT STAR is the traditional ketch rig that is highly sought after by traditionalists for coastal cruising.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

  • Constructed of African mahogany on acacia frames, with silicon bronze fastening, and teak decks.
    - Hull form: She features classic, elegant lines, including a nearly straight forefoot and wineglass transom.
    - Keel: A full, integrated keel protects the drive shaft and provides sea-kindly, forgiving motion.
    - Rigging: The original design boasts a low-aspect ketch rig with a full mainsail and a small mizzen stepped on the transom. This setup allows for exceptional balance and the ability to heave-to instantly.
    - Deck & Cockpit: Features wide side decks and a spacious cockpit. The ketch rig splits the sail area, making the sails highly manageable in a breeze and allowing the boat to be easily single-handed.
    - Visibility: Unhindered visibility forward.
