1960 Herreshoff Marlin, US $49,000, Bristol, RI, USA

NAT DESCRIPTION

NAT is a perfectly restored Marlin with a distinguished pedigree.  Expert designer Ezra Smith and master builder Dan Shea of Bristol Boat Company refit this 1960 Marlin into a remarkable and beautiful daysailer. The refit was completed in 2017 and has been stored in a heated indoor facility ever since, only lightly sailed for two seasons, 2017 & 2018. Working from the solid fiberglass hull of a 1960 Marlin from Cape Cod Shipbuilding, Dan worked his magic to create a masterpiece. He replaced the entire house with a Herreshoff replica mahogany house with raised book matched mahogany coamings. The refit included a new toe-rail, beautiful mahogany transom, a new Herreshoff style tiller and a slatted spruce floor for the cockpit. The seats are original teak. Port and starboard under-seat bins were added, constructed of mahogany sides and backed with slatted ash batten bottoms. The hull received a custom two part black paint.

In addition, the rig and control lines were highly modified. Ezra Smith redesigned the running rigging to run under the deck back to the helm – no winches needed as proper purchases were designed into control line for easy handling. All lines are secured by simple Harken cam cleats. The reefing system on the main is a single line led forward to a winch at the base of the mast.
